Two confidential reference letters (required for all applicants)
Applicants are responsible for contacting their referees and ensuring the process is understood and complete.
Confidential Referees: At least TWO are required. Please contact the department to determine if additional references are required.
If you are using the online graduate application, you can use the Electronic reference (e-ref) system. The Referee will be sent an email and directed to a secure website to complete the reference form. Please note, Dalhousie University will only accept university email addresses (ie not Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail) for our electronic reference system. Please allow 5 business days after submission for the referees to be contacted by our system.
If you are submitting the paper copy of the graduate application, you must use the paper (hard copy) of the reference form, (Reference Form (pdf)). The reference letter must be in a sealed, stamped envelope which is endorsed across the back seal by the referee and mailed to the address indicated on the form. If a referee is reluctant to follow this procedure, please provide him/her with a stamped envelope, addressed to the department to which you are applying, and have him/her mail the letter directly. If the reference is given to the student directly, do not open the envelope.
