Future Studies

The Russian Studies program allows students to complete a concentration, double major or an honours in Russian. Graduate studies programs require fluency in Russian, so advanced students who spend one or more semesters in Russia through our intensive language program at the Saint Petersburg State University are best prepared to apply for graduate programs at the masters or doctorate level in Russian Studies.

Career opportunities

Knowledge of Russian is an enormous asset for students interested in careers in international business. Canada-Russia bilateral trade has more than quadrupled in the last decade. Merchandise trade with Russia reached $2.5 billion in 2009 and exports to Russia increased by 56.9 percent in the past five years.

Russia is an important and fast-growing trade partner with Canada. This means national and multinational oil, gas, mining and financial services companies, as well as governmental agencies and media organizations, need bright young Canadians with Russian language skills.
