Why choose Creative Writing at Dal?

No matter what other program you pursue, if you enjoy writing poetry, plays, fiction, or nonfiction, you can now take creative writing classes at Dal as part of a double major or combined honours degree. You'll be taught by published writers in workshops that encourage and expand your imaginative and original writing through practice, experimentation, discussion, and critical reading.

Program Options

  • 4 years for a Bachelor of Arts (BA) with a Double Major, Creative Writing as the second subject
  • 4 years for a BA with Combined Honours, creative writing as the second subject

High school courses

Required:

  • English
  • 4 additional university preparatory courses

Class Size

  • The introductory class has approximately 90 students.
  • The upper-level classes have between 15 and 30 students.
