A day in the life
Greg O’Malley (BCS'86)
Dalhousie seeded me with a core value to continue to learn throughout my career.
‘A profound impact’
As a certified management consultant, Greg O’Malley develops strategies for businesses and helps them turns these into workable plans. He loves many things about his career, like working with business leaders to help transform their organizations.
And whether his job has him looking at matters involving corporate strategy, innovation or governance, his career choice was significantly influenced by his time at Dal.
“My studies at Dalhousie have had a profound impact on the value that I am able to bring to businesses,” says the Master of Computer Science (1989) and Master of Business Administration (1992) grad.
A desire to learn
Greg adds that his studies at Dalhousie allowed him to develop an understanding of technology and business, and how the former could be used to drive business innovation. But what Dal instilled in him most was a desire to learn.
“Dalhousie seeded me with a core value to continue to learn throughout my career,” says Greg. “The learning is exactly what I love about the IT industry. Very few industries have undergone the change that the IT industry has gone and will continue to go through.”
Looking back on his studies, Greg says his most memorable experience at Dal was witnessing the research and innovation taking place at the Faculty of Computer Science right before the high-tech industry exploded.
“Dr. Cox's work in graphical programming languages was leading edge,” he says.
