Career opportunities
The training and experience you'll get at Dalhousie’s Faculty of Dentistry is second to none. You’ll have unparalleled opportunities, including hands-on experience treating patients starting in your second year and summer research positions.
After successfully completing four years of study, you’ll graduate with a Doctor in Dental Surgery (DDS) degree with the skills you need to pursue a career in dentistry—whether you start your own dental practice or go on to graduate studies in dentistry.
You can also choose from a variety of electives that will provide you with additional experience in a specific field of dentistry. Your interests might be in implant dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, periodontal surgery, dental public health, or other areas.
Dal's DDS program is fully accredited by the Commission of Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC). Upon graduation, you’ll be eligible for license to practice dentistry in Canada, the United States, and Australia.
Here are some of the possible careers you could pursue with a DDS:
- dentist (general practice dentistry)
- health educator
- health advocate
