Ever wondered about the composition of the atmosphere, or its thermal structure? This class will give you a general overview of such topics—and others, including air mass and frontal theory, and weather-generating physical processes and their consequences. You’ll also learn about atmospheric radiation, dynamic meteorology, climatology, and the physics of clouds and storms.

In this advanced class, you’ll find out how to apply moist thermodynamics to a variety of atmospheric phenomena: aerosols, cloud droplets, precipitation formation, convection, supercells, hurricanes, lightning, and more. You’ll also learn about the radar equation and how to interpret radar images.

All aspiring meteorologists will be excited about the hands-on learning in this class, which provides an introduction to the practical skills of meteorological observation and analysis. You’ll develop skills in drawing and interpreting weather maps, and learn about the three-dimensional structure of weather systems. Plus, you’ll look at satellite and radar remote sensing of the atmosphere. An essential part of the Diploma in Meteorology program—and a "cool" class.
