IDEA Building
Design at the core of innovation
A new, shared facility is in the works to bring together the Faculties of Engineering and Architecture & Design. With design driving innovation, and innovation driving the economy, the new IDEA (Innovation and Design in Engineering and Architecture) Building will allow students from different disciplines to work on joint projects while sharing the same space.
Collaborative space to help with sharing of ideas
To be located on the Sexton campus, the IDEA Building will boast enhanced technology, flexible work stations, student work rooms, design labs, common areas, an auditorium and a place to showcase student projects and achievements.
Contemporary space to learn the art of design
The IDEA Building, by its collaborative nature, will define the future of engineering, architecture and planning at Dalhousie. By sharing workspaces between disciplines, a cross-pollination of ideas and perspectives will happen naturally, leading to a richer education experience.
Helping students think outside the box
Design will be used as a problem-solving technique, allowing students to gain a broader perspective and begin to understand that there may be a number of possible solutions to any problem. Collaboration through the IDEA Building will help students graduate job-ready and go on to become more competent and more capable professionals.
