Community Committee

Building strong community relationships

The Dalhousie University Community Committee (DUCC) was set up by President Tom Traves in 2003 as an advisory board with the mandate to enhance the relationship between the university and the community on opportunities and issues of mutual concern.

The committee has a wide membership comprised of:
  • 8 neighbourhood/community representatives
  • 5 students
  • Members from HRM
  • HR Police
  • The Spring Garden Road Business Association
  • The University of King's College
  • Other organizations

Without restricting the agenda of the committee, it will seek to:

  1. Recognize that quality of place is of the utmost importance to Dalhousie and to the neighbourhoods that host its students.
  2. Keep lines of communications open between the university and all stakeholders by providing an open exchange of information.
  3. Report to the neighbourhood and seek its input on a regular basis on initiatives that have an impact on the neighbourhood/community.
  4. Solicit advice from Dalhousie personnel and departments to resolve problems appropriately and expeditiously.
  5. Consider how new and emerging issues will have an impact on the community.
